So it begins

As we begin this week with praise to our Lord- praise for sunny skies that were forecasted to bring torrential rain and wind- praise for healthy bodies and minds- praise for a summer jam-packed full of adventures and experiences that only God could have orchestrated, those we were reluctant to leave to begin our new year of school- praise for books, school supplies and sparkly composition notebooks-I am reminded just how much there is to praise Him for.

Genesis 1 is where we are starting this year- how fitting to start the beginning at, well, the beginning.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Gen 1:1

God then went on to fill the earth with plants and animals- green and lush, spiked and glossy, furred, feathered, finned, and skinned.  How could we not praise Him in all that He has done- for all that He is doing- for all that He is going to do.

We are excited to start this new year of education, love, and discovery.  Praise the Lord- for all of it.

To Simply Be…or Not

As I slowly bob my tea bag up and down in my cup, I ponder the little affirmation written on the paper tag attached to end of the string.

“The best way of life is to be, simply be.”

Hmm.

Simply be

Must have been written by a man!   Ha!  How can a homeschooling momma, wife, daughter, sister, friend, ministry leader – simply be?  There are lists upon lists to complete by one deadline or another .  There are errands and chores and needs to be met.  There are simply too many things “to do” to just simply be!

But…oh, the personal conviction.

What are we called to do?  We are simply called to have a personal relationship with our Lord.  It is because of Him – because of His sacrifice that we are redeemed.  He calls us to simply come to Him with all of our burdens all of our “to do” lists.  To simply be in his presence – to be open for his blessings to flow in and through our lives.  What can we miss when we close off ourselves because of a list?  Everything…

When the lists feel as if they are calling (nagging) you, know that He knows what your day looked like before you did.  He knows what you need to make it through. He knows what you are being called to do.  He is the one on the other end of the line!  Answer His call.  The lists – well, they will probably still be there, but they can just simply be

The “Challenge”

If it weren’t such a challenge, we wouldn’t need the sign to remind us…

Applying this to every facet of my life is my challenge to myself – want to join the challenge?

Sweet-Hearts

The hearts of our children are those sweet little places that we must guard and protect.

The messed-up and jaded world that we live in  only reinforces this thought.

Our children are the future decision makers, mothers, fathers – the TEACHERS – of the next generation.  The impressionable hearts of all children are to be nurtured and safe guarded as God intended.  In having the opportunity to home educate my children this past year, it has become all too clear that a child’s heart should be cherished – that their beautiful, unconditional love should not be taken for granted.  The years that we have with them are fleeting.  A child’s basic desire is to please their parent(s)- to love and be loved in return.  In our fast paced lives that include financial struggles, an unsure economic climate, schedules that are bulging at the seams, and workloads that never truly recede, our children tend to bear the brunt.  They can pay for our decisions to “be as productive as possible” if we aren’t careful.

Our beautiful blessings from God can have their hearts broken by our carelessness.   We are called to protect them, love them, be good stewards of them, to help them grow in Christ’s image; not  to carelessly let the world take hold of their heartstrings.  God has wonderful plans for each of them; letting Him be the judge of our success/ productivity allows us to focus more on the who(s), not the what(s) that truly define what we productively succeed at.

His words whispered from our lips shout hope to their hearts and bless their souls….
